Forest School | Nature-based Learning

We are working with Kinsale Forest Club to bring Forest School inspired learning and play to children in Kinsale. Together we’re creating space for curiosity, adventure and connection with the natural world. From climbing trees to crafting and cooking in the woods.

More to come…

But we are only just getting started. Canopy Club wants people of all ages and abilities to experience the joy of the outdoors. Plans are underway for more courses and workshops that tap into seasonal themes and natural materials. Think wild foods, woodland crafts and more.

Keep an eye out for announcements as we grow this programme of hands-on, nature-based experiences for the whole community.

What is
Forest School?

Canopy Club is about learning through fun, play and connection. Connection to land, to each other, and to ourselves. Forest School is rooted in six core principles.

  1. Our sessions take place regularly in the same place, giving time for relationships and confidence to grow naturally.

  2. The natural setting plays an active role in learning. With shifting weather, changing seasons and natural materials all around, it offers endless chances to explore, question and engage.

  3. Our sessions focus on building an equal, respectful community where learners follow their own path. There’s no set outcome: participants are free to play, to climb, to create or be still, guided by curiosity and supported by experienced facilitators.

  4. Forest School supports the whole person. We value physical, emotional, social and creative development equally, and aim to meet people where they are, without rushing or 'fixing'.

  5. Risk is part of how we learn. Whether it’s lighting a fire, climbing a tree or navigating a group dynamic, we take a calm, thoughtful approach to challenge and safety.

  6. All sessions are led by trained practitioners who are committed to safe, reflective, learner-centred practice.

Our Values

Connection

We want to build deep, reciprocal relationships. With nature and with each other.

Care

We look after the land and each other. We tread lightly, think long-term, and teach by example.

Courage

We’re not afraid to go off-trail. We challenge outdated norms, take risks, and explore the unknown.

Fun

We believe laughter, adventure and getting muddy make the learning stick.

Curiosity

We lead with questions, not answers. We make room for wonder and the joy of not knowing.
